The laboratory that Dr. Rapoport has led at the NIMH since 1984 investigates the clinical phenomenology, neurobiology and treatment of brain and behavior disorders in children, including childhood-onset schizophrenia, ADHD and OCD, with a particular focus on diagnosis. Over the past decade, her group has been concentrating on both normal and abnormal brain development in childhood and adolescence and better understanding and treatment of childhood-onset schizophrenia.

In addition to her post at NIMH, Dr. Rapoport is Professor of Psychiatry at George Washington University School of Medicine and Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at Georgetown University Medical School.

Dr. Rapoport received her B.A. from Swarthmore College and her M.D. from Harvard Medical School. She obtained her clinical and research training at the Massachusetts Mental Health Center in Boston, the Children’s Hospital in Washington, D.C. and the Karolinska Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden.
