Founding Foundation Scientific Council Member Awarded International Mental Health Prize
The Institute of Medicine (IOM) awarded the 2013 Rhoda and Bernard Sarnat International Prize in Mental Health to founding Brain & Behavior Research Foundation Scientific Council Member and three-time NARSAD Grantee William T. Carpenter, Jr., M.D. Dr. Carpenter was awarded the Sarnat Prize at IOM’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C., for his achievements in broadening the understanding of schizophrenia as well as for his research on ethics and informed consent.
Dr. Carpenter is Professor of Psychiatry and Pharmacology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore. His research into schizophrenia has helped uncover its symptoms, courses, and causes and shaped the prevention and treatment of the illness.
