Dr. Buxbaum is a molecular neurobiologist at the forefront of research into human psychiatric and neurological diseases. His laboratory focuses on autism, schizophrenia and Alzheimer’s disease using the methods of genetics, gene expression and protein-pathway analysis to identify molecules that contribute to disease. His team studies these molecules in cell biological assays and in animal models to understand their function and how they act in disease progression. The fi ndings are ultimately being used to defi ne novel targets for possible therapeutic interventions. The laboratory has published over 180 papers in these areas.

Dr. Buxbaum received his Ph.D. from the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel and was a postdoctoral fellow at Rockefeller University with Dr. Paul Greengard. He holds the G. Harold and Leila Y. Mathers Research Professorship of Geriatrics and Adult Development at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine.
