Investigating the Biological Factors Underlying Suicide Risk

The neural mechanisms involved in suicide remain poorly understood. This webinar will discuss a series of studies investigating the biological factors underlying suicide risk, with a particular focus on the suicide crisis. Dr. Lamontagne will show preliminary effects of ketamine treatment on outcomes. The data incorporate magnetoencephalography (MEG), clinical assessments, and biological assays to provide a comprehensive understanding of suicide and inform future directions for prevention.

Dr. Lamontagne is a postdoctoral fellow in the Experimental Therapeutics and Pathophysiology Branch at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). He examines the electrophysiological correlates of suicide with a focus on understanding how ketamine modulates suicide-related pathophysiology. His background in neuroscience research ranges from preclinical animal models to human clinical trials. Broadly, his training centers on elucidating the effects of stress on various biomarkers of mood disorders. Most of his works involve pharmacological challenges to remediate stress-induced perturbations, thus exploring potential targets for novel biological treatments.
