Brain & Behavior Research Foundation Scientific Council Members Elected to National Academy of Sciences

(GREAT NECK, N.Y. – January 3, 2012) On May 3, 2011, two Brain & Behavior Research Foundation Scientific Council Members were among the 72 new members elected to the National Academy of Sciences, a prestigious non-profit organization of scientists and engineers dedicated to advancing science and promoting its uses for the greater good. The Academy also acts as an official advisor to the federal government on issues related to science and technology.

Huda Akil, Ph.D. of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and Robert C. Malenka, Ph.D., M.D. of Stanford University School of Medicine join nine other Scientific Council Members on the National Academy of Sciences. Election to NAS membership is one of the highest honors that can be accorded to a scientist and recognizes those who have made distinguished and continuing achievements in original research.
 
Herbert Pardes, M.D., founding and current president of the Scientific Council, a volunteer group of 132 of the world’s leading mental health researchers (including two Nobel Prizewinners) says, “We extend our congratulations to Drs.
