What is #GivingTuesday?

#GivingTuesday is a movement to celebrate the giving season. This effort harnesses the collective power of a unique blend of partners—nonprofits, businesses and corporations as well as families and individuals—to transform how people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season. #GivingTuesday inspires people to take collaborative action to improve their local communities, give back in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes they celebrate and help create a better world. #GivingTuesday harnesses the power of social media to create a global movement dedicated to giving around the world.

How Does it Work?

Throughout the week we will post messages on our social media channels that feature research-based statistics, facts, myths and helpful information about brain and behavior research. Each post will include the hashtag: #ResearchCures.

Our goal is to achieve broad social media interaction by asking people to like, share, re-tweet and comment on these posts. By spreading the word about the importance of brain science we hope to help remove stigma from mental illness.

What is Mental illness Awareness Week?

October 2-8 is Mental illness Awareness Week. The Brain & Behavior Research Foundation joins other mental health organizations like Mental Health America and NAMI to bring awareness to mental illness and spread the word that mental health is something everyone should care about. While mental health issues are important to address year round, highlighting these issues during Mental illness Awareness Week provides a time for people to come together and display the passion and strength of those working to improve the lives of the tens of millions of Americans affected by mental illness.
