Freedman & Klerman Prizes

Daniel X. Freedman, M.D.The Freedman Prize for Outstanding Basic Research

An honorary distinction for outstanding basic research established in 1998 to honor , a pioneer in biological psychiatry. A cash prize of $1,000 is given. An awards ceremony is held in New York City in July.

The Brain & Behavior Research Foundation Board of Directors established the Freedman Prize in 1998 to honor the memory of a pioneer in biological psychiatry, Daniel X. Freedman, M.D. The Freedman Prize is presented to the NARSAD Young Investigators who have distinguished themselves through outstanding basic science research. The Freedman Prize Committee is comprised of the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation Scientific Council members with expertise in basic research. Each year, the committee selects the winner(s) and honorable mention(s) in the spring, and the honorees are subsequently invited to attend an awards ceremony in New York City in July.

Klerman

The Klerman Prize for Outstanding Clinical Research

An honorary distinction for outstanding clinical research established in 1994, by Myrna Weissman, Ph.D., in memory of her husband, Gerald L. Klerman, M.D.  A cash prize of $1,000 is given. An awards ceremony is held in New York City in July.

The Klerman Prize was established in 1994 by Myrna Weissman, Ph.D., in memory of her husband, Gerald Klerman, M.D., to honor outstanding achievements in clinical research by the NARSAD Young Investigators. Dr. Klerman's distinguished career included innovative research in depression, outstanding teaching and mentoring, with research leadership at Yale University, Harvard Medical School and Cornell University. The Klerman Prize Committee is comprised of the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation Scientific Council members with expertise in clinical research. Each year, the committee selects the winner(s) and honorable mention(s) in the spring, and the honorees are subsequently invited to attend an awards ceremony in New York City in July.
