Highlights from the event:

At the 25th Anniversary National Awards Dinner in New York City in October, 2012, The Brain & Behavior Research Foundation recognized eight outstanding research leaders and their contributions to mental health research. The 2012 Outstanding Achievement Prizes were given to:

Lieber Prize for Schizophrenia Research

Sidney R. Baer, Jr. Prize for Schizophrenia Research

Goldman-Rakic Prize for Cognitive Neuroscience Research

Colvin Prize for Outstanding Achievement in Mood Disorders Research

Karen Dineen Wagner, M.D., Ph.D. - University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston

Ruane Prize for Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Research
Matthew State, M.D., Ph.D. - Yale University

In addition to the Outstanding Achievement Prizes that were given out, two Productive Lives Awards were also given. The Brain & Behavior Research Foundation proudly recognizes remarkable human beings who have risen to the top of their respective professions and who have devoted their energy and formidable talents to helping those living with mental illness. These individuals show tremendous resolve in helping those living with mental illness realize their potential to live full, productive lives.

This year's Productive Lives Awards went to Miami-Dade County Judge Steve Leifman who served as Special Advisor on Criminal Justice and Mental Health for the Supreme Court of Florida and Alice Medalia, Ph.D., an international leader in the field of psychiatric rehabilitation, who focuses on the treatment of neuropsychological disorders in psychiatric illness.
